Many of you will have just completed a month of sobriety. How have you benefited?
So, getting the obvious ones out of the way. Dropping your alcohol intake will save you money, you are likely to get improved sleep quality and you may lose weight. You will likely see improvements to skin health, overall energy and concentration levels. Importantly you have just dropped the risk of some cancers, liver disease and mental health problems.
The government has changed its previous recommendations on alcohol intake, acknowledging now that it’s not just about the volume of alcohol but the frequency of intake that’s important.
Many find that reducing the overall frequency of alcohol intake and especially having a few weeks off can support a longer-term reduction in overall intake.
That month off is also likely to give you a better sense of your own relationship with alcohol. What was the trigger for drinking in the first place? Were you drinking because of social pressure? Were your stress levels causing a reliance on that end of day drink to relax and recover? Cutting it out completely really helps you to understand what your habits and triggers were previously so as to manage it better in the future.
I hope all of you who participated had a great Sober for October and that the effects will last until Dry January.
