The spice of life

So, you thought that herbs and spices just added flavour to your food?  Think again.  Like fruit and vegetables, spices are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals helping our body to fight disease, inflammation or even helping our brain.

Here are a few to note:

Basil fights aging, treats arthritis and helps with inflammatory bowel disease.

Cayenne promotes weight loss by stimulating thermogenesis, it helps blood pressure and heals stomach ulcers.

Chilli is a natural pain reliever, it can clear congestion and boost immunity

Cinnamon helps to lower blood pressure, boost your metabolism and reduces blood glucose

Garlic detoxes the bloodstream, lowers cholesterol and promotes heart health

Ginger aids digestion and is good for sickness

Mustard seeds are good for the gastrointestinal tract and the colon

Oregano promotes bone health and boosts the immune system.  Its also good for colds and upset stomachs

Peppermint helps anxiety and soothes tension headaches

Rosemary fights against seasonal allergies and help reduce inflammation

Sage is good for the memory, it promotes brain health and improves attention

Turmeric helps with digestion, reduces inflammation and promotes heart health
